How time flies! One month into the new year, the summer rush is drawing to close and we have pared back our restaurant hours to once again free up Wednesdays for staff development and training.
The idea of our staff development day is to provide the team with an opportunity to meet our producers first hand, be it to walk the vineyard with Michael Glover at Bannockburn, milk the goats at Drysdale Cheeses, or feed the cows at Sher Wagyu. We are lucky enough that our regional location affords this ability and our trips offer us a wonderful, first-hand insight into a producer, their motivations, efforts and enthusiasm!
First off for this year was a trip to Shadowfax Winery in Werribee and a run through their current range. Zoe (cellardoor manager) and young Ivy (winemaker's daughter) took the team on a tour of the winery, Matt Harrop (winemaker) ran us through their operations and explained his approach to wine making before we sat down to a lovely lunch of charcuterie, wood fired pizza and a few glasses of vino. Wine of the day was a unanimous vote for the 2008 'Pink Cliffs' Heathcote Shiraz.
